| Abstract |
Following a brief introduction to the terminology of master data management (MDM), the presentation will address the business background and case for MDM. Practical examples will be used to illustrate how large organizations have risen to the challenge of successfully implementing MDM. Some potential roadblocks and potholes on the route to successful MDM implementations will be described. Attention will also be devoted to outlining some of the best practices and lessons learned, based on experience drawn from a number of both large and small MDM implementations. Finally the key role of implementing data governance delivering a successful MDM implementation will be highlighted. |

Biography Cliff Longman Cliff Longman is an independent consultant specialising in data modelling and data management. He spent 10 years with Oracle in the UK where he designed Oracle systems, ran the UK training business and was chief architect for the Oracle CASE tools. As an independent he consulted on the design and implementation of database and data management systems in manufacturing, oil and gas, finance and electronics industries. More recently, as Chief Technology Officer at Kalido, Cliff was responsible for product and technology strategy for the software company's data warehousing and master data management portfolio. |
